  SECU People Helping People Scholarship 

WYWLA has the opportunity to nominate a student for consideration for a $10,000 “People Helping People” scholarship opportunity.  This scholarship is available to graduating public high school seniors who are either members of SECU or the child of a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU.    Applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA, and they must have been accepted to one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC system and plan to attend one of these 16 schools.  Ideal candidates demonstrate leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.  All application components are due via email (kdicarlo@wcpss.net) to Mrs. di Carlo by 2:30 on Friday, February 22nd.  Completed submissions include the student application and essay (as a Word document), signed consent form, university acceptance letter, brief student bio, and a headshot photo.  You can access the components of the application and criteria for the scholarship through these links:

Welcome to Senior Year, OWLS!  
  • February Scholarship Bulletin:  Please check out the February scholarship bulletin through this link . 
  • FAFSA:  The FAFSA is now open to complete!  Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the FAFSA.
  • WYWLA Financial Aid Counselor – Amy Malasky:  Mrs. Malaksy will return to campus for appointments on February 1st, March 1st and April 5th.  You can make an appointment to see her at https://goo.gl/forms/zmMb7vg4jFIl8vQS2 .
  • Cap and Gown Orders:  ​If you have not already placed your cap and gown order, please do so at www.highschool.herffjones.com .  You can also order graduation products and class rings!
  • Robert Styres Scholarship Form:  Seniors who are interested in applying for the Robert Styres Scholarship should complete this form and return it, along with a letter of recommendation and essay detailing your need for the scholarship to Mrs. di Carlo by 2:30 on Friday, March 15th.

WYWLA Counseling Vision Statement:  The Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy student services team will inspire a community of college-ready, career-focused young women who are ready to learn, lead, and serve in a global society.  We will nurture and develop the social-emotional growth of our young women so that they can confidently and competently navigate the intricacies of balancing their school, family, and work lives.

​About Me

I am Katie di Carlo, and I serve as WYWLA's Dean of Students.  I work with students and parents in grades 9-13 on academic, personal and college/career counseling.  I have served as a school counselor in Cumberland and Wake County Public School Systems for 13 years.  I earned my BA in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill and my MS in Counselor Education from East Carolina University.  I consider it an honor and a pleasure to work with our OWLS at the first public single gender school in the state!
